Owning a home with a dog: what pet friendly means at Denemouth

Dogs are welcome at Denemouth Park, with beaches, cliff tops and woodland on the doorstep. What pet friendly means here, the walks, and the few things to know.

Updated October 2026 · Denemouth Park

For a lot of people, the dog is half the reason for buying a home. A week in a rented cottage with a dog can be hard work. Your own place, with your own rules and the beach at the end of the road, is a different thing entirely.

Dogs are welcome on the park

Denemouth Park is pet friendly, and dogs are welcome on the park with their owners. As on any park, there are a few house rules, such as picking up after your dog, and we will run through them with you when you come to look round.

The walks on the doorstep

This is where Denemouth really comes into its own.

  • The beach at Blackhall Rocks, right beside the park, with cliffs, caves and rock pools to explore at low tide.
  • Crimdon beach, a few minutes south, with miles of sand and a boardwalk through the dunes.
  • The coast path along the cliff tops, north towards Seaham and south towards Hartlepool.
  • Castle Eden Dene, a National Nature Reserve of ancient woodland running down to the sea beside the park, cool and shady on a hot day and sheltered on a wet one.

A few things to know

From May to around September, little terns nest on parts of the beaches along this coast, behind fencing put up to protect them. They lay their eggs straight on the sand, and a dog running through the area can ruin a whole season, so keep your dog on a lead near the fencing and give it a wide berth. Elsewhere, watch the tide at Blackhall Rocks, where the sea comes right up to the cliffs.

Denemouth Bar

Our clubhouse, Denemouth Bar, is the one place on the park where dogs are not allowed inside. Settle them in at home with a chew after the evening walk, then come down for a drink, some food or the live music.
